Addressing Extreme Heat in Schools

The Metropolitan Area Planning Council in conjunction with the Massachusetts Asthma Action Partnership has issued three template policies to address extreme heat and air quality in schools: a District Wellness Policy, Faculty and Staff Handbooks, and Emergency Cancellation, Delay, and Early Dismissal Procedures. 


Final Rule and Interpretive Guidance Under the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act Now in Effect


In April, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission issued a Final Rule and Interpretive Guidance under the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act. The Rule and Guidance became effective on June 18, 2024. Employers with at least 15 employees must reasonably accommodate a worker’s known limitations related to pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions, unless they cause undue hardship to the employer.
