Massachusetts COVID-19 Emergency Paid Sick Leave Program Has Ended

Miyares and Harrington, LLP

On February 28, 2022, the Executive Office for Administration and Finance announced that the Massachusetts COVID-19 Emergency Paid Sick Leave Program would end on March 15, 2022. The Massachusetts COVID-19 Emergency Paid Sick Leave Act, which went into effect on May 28, 2021, required eligible Massachusetts employers to provide emergency paid sick leave to employees unable to work for qualifying reasons related to COVID-19. The Act was to remain in effect through April 1, 2022, or until the $100 million dollars funded for the program was exhausted, whichever came first.

Employers may continue to seek reimbursement for qualifying leave costs for leave taken between May 28, 2021 and March 15, 2022. Reimbursement applications must be submitted by April 29, 2022.
